Health Alerts

Health Alerts is the daily triage screen for the virtual estate. Every issue requiring attention, filterable by severity and acknowledgment state, with the context needed to pivot straight into the affected object.

What this screen shows

A filterable alert table. Columns cover alert type, severity, device, category, target, description, acknowledgment status, and a ServiceNow field where the integration is configured. Two filters sit above it: acknowledged state, and severity across critical, warning, and informational.

When to use it

  • Daily operational triage. The first screen of the morning for most operations teams.
  • Tracking what has been handled. Acknowledged versus unacknowledged is the difference between a backlog and a list.
  • Creating incident records. Where ServiceNow is integrated, escalation happens without leaving the alert.

How to work it

  • Filter severity to critical. That is the highest-impact subset and the only list worth reading before coffee.
  • Bulk acknowledge after validation. Clear resolved alerts in batches once you have confirmed the fix, not before.
  • Pivot on device plus target. The two together identify the affected cluster, host, datastore, or VM, and the related unit screen is where root cause lives.

Note: Verify in the next collection snapshot before acknowledging. Collection is point-in-time, so an alert cleared immediately after a change has not yet been confirmed by the data. Acknowledging early hides an issue that may still be live.

The triage workflow

  1. Filter to critical and unacknowledged.
  2. Pivot to the affected cluster, host, datastore, or VM using the device name and target.
  3. Use Cluster Trends or VM Summary to establish whether the issue is new or chronic. Chronic issues need a plan, new issues need a fix.
  4. Plan the mitigation: rebalance, add capacity, right-size, or correct configuration.
  5. Acknowledge after verification in the next collection snapshot.

Cluster Trends and VM Summary answer the new-or-chronic question. Storage Health Alerts is the equivalent screen for the array estate, with the same acknowledgment and escalation model.
