Virtual Environment

Virtual Environment is the top-of-funnel view. Each environment or vCenter is summarized, and every cluster inside it renders as a card carrying its utilization and scale. It is built for comparison rather than analysis: you look at it to decide where to look next.

What this screen shows

  • Environment summary. Total memory, memory allocated, CPU and disk utilization, and cluster count for the environment as a whole.
  • Cluster cards. One per cluster, showing % CPU, % Memory, % Disk, host count, VM count, and the underlying raw resource values.

Percentages and raw values appear together deliberately. A cluster at 85% memory with a small footprint is a different decision from a cluster at 85% memory holding several terabytes, and a percentage alone hides that.

When to use it

  • Comparing environments or vCenters at a glance. Particularly useful where different sites or business units run their own vCenter.
  • Spotting outliers. Clusters running high on memory, CPU, or disk stand out against their neighbours.
  • Deciding where new workload goes. The cards give you the placement answer without opening five screens.

How to work it

Scan for high memory utilization first. Memory is the constraint that binds first in most virtual estates, so a cluster running hot on memory while CPU looks comfortable is the normal failure pattern rather than an anomaly. Use the cards to pick a drill-down target, then move to the per-cluster screens for the detail.

Tip: This screen shows utilization, not runway. A cluster sitting at 60% memory that has climbed twenty points in a quarter is a bigger problem than one that has sat at 80% for two years. Check trends before you trust a snapshot.

All Units: Clusters is the same population in sortable table form, with weeks left to capacity. Cluster Summary is the drill-down from any card. Virtual Trends adds the time dimension this screen lacks.
