Business TransformationThe IT industry is now viewing data as being more valuable than oil, comparing its necessity today to water.
How you store this data will dictate what you can do with it in the future. Data is saved in a couple of different formats: Structured data, also referred to as “Block and Storage” and Unstructured data, also referred to as “File Storage”.
Structured data is data organized into a fixed format, data model or “schema”. Structured data is designed so it can be passed into another application, such as a business intelligence package, for further analysis. Block storage is ideal for performance-intensive primary storage.
Traditional unstructured data stores are made up of text, photos, and audio. Increasingly, unstructured data comes from sources outside of an organization including social media or IoT devices. Becaus Unstructured data is growing at a rate of 55-65 percent each year, enterprises find it challenging to efficiently (and affordably) store and manage this unprecedented volume of data. These challenges demand new technology and strategy.
