# Executive Backup Summary

**Purpose:** Whether the estate is genuinely protected. Backup and replication status per site, with success, immutability, and offsite coverage expressed as percentages. It answers the question an auditor asks and most organizations cannot answer quickly.

## When to use it

- Evidence backup coverage for an audit, insurer, or board question
- Find sites where backups are configured but not succeeding
- Check immutability coverage as a ransomware-recovery position
- Confirm offsite replication actually matches the DR plan on paper

## Key areas and metrics

- **Backup Status.** A horizontal stacked bar per site, split into successful and unsuccessful, sized by volume. A bar that is mostly red is a site whose backups are running and failing.
- **Replication Status.** The same sites, showing replicated volume. A site present in the backup chart but absent here has no offsite copy.
- **Coverage grid.** One row per site with the full accounting.

## The gap that matters most

Compare **Eligible for Backup**, **7 Day Backups**, and **Successful Backed Up** across a row. A site can show every system eligible and every system attempted in the last seven days while showing zero successful. That is the worst state in the report, because every dashboard upstream reports the job as running and nothing is recoverable.

It is also easy to miss. High attempt counts look healthy at a glance, and the failure only surfaces in the success column and in the percentage bars beside it.

## Common actions

- **Sort by % Successful ascending.** The worst sites come to the top and that ordering is the worklist.
- **Read % Immutable separately from % Successful.** A successful backup that is mutable does not survive a ransomware event, so the two are different assurances.
- **Check % Offsite Coverage against the DR plan.** A site with strong backup success and zero offsite coverage fails a site-loss scenario regardless of how good its local copies are.
- **Group by vCenter** to see whether failures cluster on one management host, which points at one cause rather than many.

## Tips

> The chart axes and the first two grid columns carry site names and vCenter hostnames. These are the most sensitive labels in the whole Executive Reports section. Redact them before any screenshot leaves the organization.

> A site missing from the Replication Status chart is not a rendering fault. It means nothing at that site is replicated, and that is a finding.
